About Frankie G, and the classes...

My name is Frank Giovanni, and my friends call me Frankie G.  I am an East Bay native, and the child of two first-generation Italian Americans, Frank Sr. and Rose Giovanni.  My mother was of Sicilian decent, while my father's family came from Tuscany and Naples.  My grandparents came to America in 1907.

I was inspired and taught to cook by my mother, grandmother, and aunt. I have always had a passion for Italian food and the traditional ways of preparation and dining. I love to cook!

Together with my wife, Gail, we own a business called FG Pizza & Italian.
Gail, and I started FG Pizza & Italian to help fund our daughter's education (which it still does).  The best part about it,  is that I am doing what I love to do, cook pizza & Italian food, and bake bread for family and friends.  My focus for keeping the Italian recipes and traditions came alive when I realized that it was disappearing in my generation. I wanted my kids to experience what my grandparents worked so hard to preserve - and it just so happens, I love to do it.  Now, I want to share my passion with you.  I love to share and teach our friends and customers Italian culture through cooking.

In our Italian pasta classes, you will learn make classic and delicious Italian pasta dishes, with achievable recipes that you will be able to recreate on your own.  All that and it's fun too!  Our classes are for everyone. Beginners, novice and experts.  We offer a fun, hands-on and engaging classes that keep everyone one entertain, and very well fed. The classes are fun, delicious, and full of information.

Ciao Bella!

If you are a fan of Hell’s Kitchen you won’t like Frank Giovanni.  Unlike the star of Hell’s Kitchen, Frank is actually a nice guy who you want to sit and drink a glass of vino with.  Taking a class with Frank is like taking a class with your favorite uncle who just happens to be a big teddy bear and knows Italian food as well as anyone I know.
I have gotten to know Frank and Gail a bit through their FGPizza.com website.  (I am a loyal customer – they sell great stuff at reasonable prices. Support this great local business)!  Frank worked with me to set up a class for my nieces and their boyfriends (I gave them a class as a Christmas gift).  The kids could not have been more excited to take the class.  As a group, they don’t have a lot of cooking experience (if you call making ramen ‘cooking’, so all the kids were a little nervous.
Given that the kids were a bit nervous, Frank was the perfect teacher.  He has a wonderful sense of humor and humility, is patient, extremely clear in his instruction and can explain things a different way if you don’t get it the first time.
Frank brought his amazing wife, Gail, as his sous chef.  They brought everything they needed to teach the class (including some amazing Italian hard candies).  They were organized, on time and cleaned up after themselves.
The class was a great balance of doing, listening and watching.  We made pasta, we helped make tasty appetizers and Frank demonstrated how to make 3 different types of pasta sauces.  Best of all – we got to eat everything!
Everyone had a wonderful time and we are planning on taking another class – thinking Ravioli next time!  I highly recommend taking a class from Frank.  He’s a good human (he gives a lot back to his community), and a great teacher.  All in all, a great value and a great experience!
